Terms & Conditions
Welcome to Shittybox.com. By using our crowd-sourced grievance chart, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. Please read them carefully before submitting or co-signing.
If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Shittybox.com (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions (“Terms”). Shittybox may update these Terms at any time by posting revised terms on this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
2. Description of Service
Shittybox is a free, crowd-sourced grievance chart. Users submit and co-sign shared frustrations with processes, businesses, and systems — not individuals — and the most-recognized entries rise on a public leaderboard, the Shittlist. Key features:
- No registration required: you do not need to create an account to co-sign or submit.
- Anonymous by default: co-signing never requires a name or identity.
- Optional handles: you may claim a pseudonymous handle to get credit for a personal story, without linking it to an email or account.
- Review before publication: new entries are reviewed before they can be co-signed or appear on the Wall or Shittlist.
- Public display: entries and stories are displayed publicly on the Shittybox website.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Service. By using Shittybox, you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older.
4. Acceptable Use
Shittybox exists to call out shitty processes — not people. You are responsible for the content you submit.
4.1 Permitted Use
You may use Shittybox to:
- Submit a shared, recognizable grievance about a process, product, or system
- Co-sign entries that reflect your own experience
- Share a personal story about a specific time an entry’s grievance happened to you
- Express frustration anonymously, without it becoming a dispute with a specific person
4.2 Prohibited Content
You may NOT use Shittybox to submit content that:
- Targets, names, or is substantially about a specific private individual rather than a shared process or system
- Contains direct threats of violence, harm, or illegal activity
- Includes personal information (doxxing) such as home addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, or financial information
- Contains child sexual abuse material or exploits minors in any way
- Violates criminal laws, including but not limited to extortion, blackmail, stalking, or harassment that rises to a criminal level
- Infringes on intellectual property rights (copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets)
- Contains malware, viruses, or malicious code
- Is spam, a commercial solicitation, or contains links/URLs of any kind
- Impersonates another person or entity in a way that could cause harm
- Duplicates your own prior submission in substance
4.3 Enforcement
We reserve the right to:
- Hold new entries in review before they are published or able to be co-signed
- Remove (“retire”) any story or entry that violates these Terms, at any time, including after publication
- Refuse to publish submissions that we determine violate these Terms
- Cooperate with law enforcement when legally required or when we believe illegal activity has occurred
- Rate-limit or block IP addresses associated with repeated abuse
5. Your Responsibilities
When using Shittybox, you agree to:
- Accept full responsibility: you are legally responsible for the content you submit.
- Respect the law: follow all applicable local, state, national, and international laws.
- Use good judgment: consider the impact of your words, and keep grievances about processes, not people.
6. Content Ownership and License
6.1 Your Content
You retain ownership of the entries and stories you submit through Shittybox. However, by using the Service, you grant Shittybox a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to:
- Store and display your submission on the Service
- Use, reproduce, and distribute your submission as part of the Service (for example, on the Wall, the Shittlist, or a specimen page)
6.2 Public Display
Entries and stories submitted through Shittybox are displayed publicly on our website. By submitting, you consent to its public display. We do not display your identity unless you’ve chosen to attach a handle to a story.
6.3 Publication Discretion
New entries are held for review before they’re visible anywhere on the Service. Publication is at our sole discretion — we reserve the right to decline, edit for spam-pattern reasons, or remove (retire) any submission at any time, for any reason.
7. Anonymity and Privacy
Co-signing and submitting on Shittybox does not require a name, email, or account. A few specifics on what we do collect:
- We use a randomly generated anonymous token (not tied to your identity) to prevent duplicate co-signs and duplicate submissions from the same visitor.
- If you claim a handle, it’s a pseudonym with a one-time recovery code — not an account, and not linked to an email address.
- We temporarily use IP addresses for spam and abuse prevention (rate-limiting repeated submissions). This is not stored in our permanent database as part of your submission record.
- We may be required to disclose information in response to valid legal requests, to the extent we hold any.
See our Privacy Policy for more details.
8. Reporting Violations
If you see a Shittybox entry or story that violates these Terms, you may report it to us via Contact Us. Include a link to the entry or story, and why you believe it violates our Terms.
We will review reports and take appropriate action, which may include retiring the content or cooperating with law enforcement.
9. No Warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. Shittybox does not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, timely, or error-free
- The Shittlist rankings will be accurate or unbiased
- The Service will meet your specific requirements
- Defects will be corrected
- The Service is free from viruses or harmful components
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Shittybox and its directors, officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service
- Damages resulting from content submitted or displayed through the Service
- Lost profits, data, or business opportunities
- Harm resulting from another user’s violation of these Terms
- Unauthorized access to or alteration of your submissions
Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the Service is to stop using it.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Shittybox and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including attorney’s fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, your violation of any rights of another person or entity, or the content you submit through the Service.
12. Third-Party Links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites. Shittybox is not responsible for the content, privacy policies, or practices of third-party sites. You access third-party sites at your own risk.
13. Termination
Shittybox reserves the right to refuse service to anyone at any time without notice, terminate or suspend access for violations of these Terms, and remove or refuse to publish content at our sole discretion.
The following sections survive termination: Section 6 (Content License), Section 10 (Limitation of Liability), Section 11 (Indemnification), and Section 14 (Governing Law).
14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of Connecticut, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Fairfield County, Connecticut. You consent to the personal jurisdiction of these courts.
15. Dispute Resolution
Before filing any legal claim, you agree to first contact us to attempt to resolve the dispute informally. Most concerns can be resolved quickly and amicably this way.
16. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Shittybox regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements.
17. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
18. Changes to Service
Shittybox reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part thereof) at any time without notice. We are not liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.
19. Contact Us

Remember: Shittybox is for calling out shitty processes, not people. Use it responsibly. Anonymity does not exempt you from legal responsibility for your actions.
By using Shittybox, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions.
